USCOAL and NEWCOAL

Description |
| USCOAL | 32,000 | Published U.S. coal resource estimates |
| organized by State, county, coal field, | ||
| geologic age and formation, rank, thickness | ||
| of coal, thickness of overburden, and | ||
| reliability of data. Sources of data are | ||
| included. Also indicated is whether tonnage | ||
| estimate is for original coal in the ground or | ||
| coal remaining in the ground as of the date | ||
| of the publication. | ||
| NEWCOAL * | 8,000 | Published coal resource estimates for various |
| coal-bearing States. Data elements are the | ||
| same as those of USCOAL. This is a | ||
| working database for all new resource data. | ||
| The records are stored herein until they can | ||
| be validated and incorporated into | ||
| USCOAL. | ||
| Caution: the tonnage estimates in this | ||
| database may duplicate or overlap those in | ||
| the USCOAL database. Do not add these | ||
| tonnages to those in USCOAL without | ||
| careful prior checking. | ||
